I'm feeling very anxious right now. I'm not 100% sure how to calm down. Advice please. Deep breaths aren't working.

Try playing fifa, or a different game you like.

That's what I'm doing. I'm also going to listen to my favourite album when my next season starts. I still feel sick and tight chested though.

Normally when you get anxious you are worried about the future or something you cannot control in the present moment. I was very anxious this week before my phone interview. I was able to deal with it by looking up interview questions and answering them out loud to myself. I felt more prepared for my interview before I had it and it really helped me calm down. So in general if I were you I would find out all the situations in your life that you get anxious about, and than find ways that you can be prepared for them before they come up again.

It was something that initially got me excited but then disappointed me. Messed with my head a bit.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Try doing something else to distract yourself, like cooking perhaps so you're focused on not burning the house down instead of whatever is bothering you.

Sometimes things happen the way you don't expect them to, for good or for worse. I would say to remember things like that happen often but they come and go very quickly. Life will always have an infinite amount of excitements and disappointments.

Is this like a medical anxiety or like you can't sleep because you are so excited anxiety?

Nah it's just chest pains and sickness because I got myself too worked up and was then let down.

I deal with a lot of anxiety and panic attacks, but it always helps when I have someone there with me to calm me down. Usually my girlfriend holding me will stop me from having a panic attack. Maybe try talking to a friend or inviting someone over to hang out with you until you've settled down?

That would be a cool idea if I had friends and it wasn't 2am.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Anxiety is a horrible experience. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, but I'm on medication that helps to deal with that. I'm a bit late to give advice, but some of this might help for any future troubles.

Distraction is probably the main thing I would suggest. Obviously easier said than done, but when I'm suffering from anxiety I try and find something to take my attention. Playing on my Xbox, watching a TV show or movie, go out for a walk with my music in etc anything that'll take my mind's attention away from the thing that's plaguing my thoughts. It's not a fool-proof solution, but I find it helps more often than it doesn't.

Another thing that helps me is getting the thoughts out of my head. I find that I can latch onto certain things and just won't let go of them. My mind goes into overdrive, breaking it down, worrying over every possible outcome and just generally driving myself crazy. For me, getting those thoughts out, whether that be just saying them out loud, writing them down, or talking to someone about them, it's a way of dealing with them. If you don't deal with the thoughts, they just keep swimming around in your head. It sounds cliche, but getting these thoughts off your chest can literally get them 'off your chest', or in this case, out of your head.

And I mentioned it above, but when I have my most intense panic attacks, I ring my Mum. I've tried dealing with them by myself, but that's a futile effot because 'myself' is the one affected by the panic. Talking to someone else gets a calmer perspective on things, someone to reassure you and take some of the panic away from you.

Hopefully you're ok now though.

Positive thoughts. I know it sounds like an ignorant answer, but try what I suggest. Take a second to rationally consider your situation, and consider if it's as bad as you think it is. For example:

Anxious thought: "Omg, I completely embarrassed myself in front of a few friends last night."

Rational thought: "I'm really not that important. People are so self absorbed that they probably forgot about that embarrassing moment 2 minutes later. Nobody died, nobody was hurt, and the world will go on. I'm fine."

Here is my morbid thought that always makes me feel better. Don't read it if you get depressed easily.
